Neat and Tangled October Release!! Day Four: Do Not Open

Hello!

 

I'm so excited to be helping introduce the new stamp sets from Neat and Tangled. My GOODNESS they are cute!! All sets will be available for purchase Friday October 5 at 8am EST in the shop!

Today we're focussing on the new Do Not Open set. (for a really good look at the stamp and a video of it in action, be sure to head over to the blog.)  Don't forget to comment on each day's blog posts for this release week, as there are some fabulous prizes to be won!

OK Onto my projects!!

I wanted to try to use the stamp set in a way OTHER than the more obvious, so I thought I'd make my own wrapping paper:

To make this, I simply took some natural (kraft) wrapping paper (this is in the supermarkets here in Australia, I'm sure its available everywhere). I stamped out a few ink colours to see what would stand out the best against the kraft background.

When I'd chosen an ink colour (Memento Love Letter and Hero Arts Grass Chalk Ink), I stamped all over the paper, being  sure to turn my stamp as I went. Then I added some white gel pen to the banner of the image, and then added stickles to the circular outline of the stamp. Finally I stamped some snowflakes from the new Santa's Notes set with white colorbox ink, and added some stickles to that.

The paper has a lovely textural, glittery look to it--so pretty in real life!

And now for my second project!

I cut a sheet of Neenah cardstock to size (about 2.25 x 3.25"), rounded the top corners with my corner chomper. I used Tumbled Glass distress ink and a foam blending tool to bring colour to the entire piece, and then added a small amount of Salty Ocean to the edges. Next I stamped the present and bow image repeatedly over the tag, using Tumbled Glass ink, this gives a nice tone on tone effect.

To give some extra interest, I gently spritzed some perfect pearlized water over the entire surface. I think it gives the look of  snow falling :)

Finally I added an eyelet with my crop-o-dile, stamped the 'gift' sentiment and added some neon twine, before attaching my Do Not Open images with dimensional adhesive.

Scrap Bundles cards 3&4 :)

HI!!!

I'm back with some more of the Scrap Bundles cards I made!

Given how much I "talked" last time, I'll just get straight to the cards today :) (yup, I'm sharing TWO!)



this card came together in literally five minutes. LOVE THAT!

This used a piece of Bazzille Cardshoppe card stock that I had sitting out. To give the banners more dimension, I added 3D pop dots to the bottoms of each flag. So cute in real life. And that sentiment?! Paper Smooches genius.



I wanted something really graphic and bright. Love how this turned out. LOTS of scraps here :)

Shopping Our Stash challenge #71!

Hey!

*this is my second post for today. for the first, see HERE*

It's time again for a new challenge over at Shopping Our Stash!

This week's challenge is GREEN!! Use the colour, or the theme (i.e. RECYCLE)

I chose to recycle AND use green the colour (tricky huh?!)

Here's what I made:

 

I thought it would be fun to make the top of the jar look like those gorgeous old fashioned lids with the gingham  fabric thats all puckered because of the twine wrapped around it, only I used washi!

Actually if I'm being honest, just about everything on this jar is washi :) The label is a Hero Arts diecut and stamp, the stickers are October Afternoon (I THINK)...the doily is from my stash, as is the twine/string.

The jar is from my recycling bin (just joking, its one I used and cleaned out just yesterday

Here's an idea of what you could use it for :)

Scrap Bundles...

Hello hello hello!!!

I have been crafting away like a NINJA I tell you!!

well, maybe not a ninja, cause I haven't been very stealthy about it. Maybe more like a very producting machine...but that doesn't sound as cool does it?!

Anyway.

As you all know, I recently took this class:

and well, it was awesome.

It's finished now but you can take it as a self-paced class. Lets face facts, I kept up for about 2 days (with 'homework' and then my kids realised where I was and found me LOL.)

So one of the concepts Jennifer McGuire mentioned (I wont give them all away, coz the class is REALLY SERIOUSLY worth taking), was a Scrap Bundle. All those little scraps/strips/blocks of paper and cardstock that end up lying around on your desk?? (Yes, those). You bundle them all up together and then, when you have time/the inclination--you make a card out of them. THE SCRAPS!!

So I took the challenge :)

This is a photo of the scraps I had on my table.

 

As you can see, some larger pieces, some tiny pieces, but NO full pieces of anything. To make more sense of it, I seperated the pieces into size groups (tiny strips together, larger sized pieces together, random funny-shaped, plain white--suitable for sentiment etc)

Then, to help my brain make some sense of this large group of bits n pieces, I sorted them further into grouplets (yes that's a word). At least one larger piece per grouplet, then a few strips, blocks etc anything to make a Scrap Bundle that could actually become a card.

So... after this, I started making cards. I didn't question the Scrap Bundle (that would be wrong). I just went with whatever was in the bundle (or grouplet :))

To help along the way, any pieces that were left over once a card was made, went into the next Scrap Bundle and so on, and so forth.

In total, I made SEVEN cards. And overall, they only took me about 1.5 hours to do them all. (Even though that was split up over two days lol THANKS KIDS!)

I'll show you two today (coz you've read my rambling) and then I'll show you one a day for the rest of the week (except for days when I've got a DT post :)) I'm going to show you them in the order I created them too :)

So here are today's offerings:

I know it looks like most of what is on this card isn't in the photo, but it's the flipsides of a few of the patterned papers. Its the grouplet in the top left of the second photo. I used a Simon Says Stamp die to make the flower and Hero Arts sentiment.

Here is the second card:

I added a piece of kraft cardstock for the cardbase (it wasn't in the photo but it WAS on my desk, as was the Mossy Made button and the Lawn Fawn twine :)) The central panel was aqua cardstock that I covered with washi tape :)

New Challenge at ABNH

Hi friends!

I'm here to show you the card I made for the new ABNH challenge--it's a doozy!

 

So basically, you have to START with white cardstock/paper ONLY. NO patterned paper, no coloured cardstock etc. And go from there :)

I've done this 'challenge' before and had absolutely no problem with it. This time, I'll admit, I tried about three times to get it right. Persist persist persist.

When the card FINALLY came together, it was pretty quick.

So I started with white watercolour paper, and I heat embossed the Hero Arts Roma Background stamp with clear embossing powder.

Then sprayed it with water (plain) to get it 'ready' for the colour. Then I chose three Glimmer Mists (you could use Dylusions inks too) and I sprayed around the watercolour paper, dabbing off the large puddles of ink. (I wanted a fairly smooth, blended look. If you want that great splotchy look, leave the puddles and droplets alone).

After waiting approximately 15 seconds for it to dry, I got too impatient and I heatset it with my heat gun (lol). I gently wiped over the embossed image with a damp baby-wipe to clean off any excess ink.

It was a bit warped (the paper, not my sense of humour...ok that too) from all the liquid and heat-setting, so I 'stretched' it over the 'sharp' edge of my desk and sat it under a heavy book for a while. (again, the paper--not my sense of humour. I hung that out to dry. LOL ok I'll stop now.)

It has a lovely shine thanks to the glimmer mist.

To finish it off, I stamped a sentiment on a banner strip (handcut from white cardstock) and adhered that down with dimensionals, added a Studio Calico Wood veneer plane (LOOOOOOOOVE!) and some gorgeous Mossy Made ribbon!!

I mounted the entire cardfront onto some nice crisp white cardstock :)

That's it! all in all, it took me less than 20 minutes in total (if you don't count me fussing over which wood veneer shape to use, and the straightening under a book time).
